Ice Cream, Pizzas and Tacos

----------------
I wouldn't be surprised if I have created a similar comic strip in the past.  My father died a few years ago and I tend to ponder more about death; how everything will turn to dust one day and how everything will seem like a dream when we are all gone.

But while we are alive, we have to make the most out of it.  Love more, create more, share more.  Just live your best life so that at the end of it all, there will be no regrets.

The Zombies and I

My heart beated fast as I huddled in my closet, knowing the fate that awaited me downstairs.  About 10 zombies got into my house and I had no choice but to find a place to hide.  How would skinny ‘ole me survive this apocalypse?

As I leaned back I accidentally knocked down my baseball bat.  Surely the noise would attract those zombies?   But as I touch the cold metal, hope began to rise up my chest.  I WOULD NOT BE DEFEATED BY THOSE STINKY HALF-DEAD MONSTERS!!!

So I stood up, gripped the bat and opened the closet door.
And with tears in my eyes, I started to swing down the bat to a female zombie that looked remarkably like my mother, beside a zombie that looked like my father and a crawling baby zombie that looked like my baby brother.

My BFF

I had a best friend named Lavender.
We ran, sang and played together all the time.

But as time pass by, Lavender grew up and doesn’t need me anymore.

And while I’m sad, I know I had to go back to the Imaginary Friends Land.

Disclaimer: This was inspired by a historical romance novel I was reading a while back.  I just scribbled this in my notebook so I remember (I am forever forgetting stories if I don't write it down right away), unfortunately I forgot to write down the title and author of the book.  Apologies for this.

And... I finally tried using markers for my illustrations.  I stumbled upon my sister's Faber-Castell's Colouring Pens (which she hasn't used for years) and I like how the art looks different.  Still prefer water colors though.

Me and the Tribe

I am the luckiest guy in the world.  When an opportunity to visit an indigenous tribe came up, I had to volunteer.  After all, I am an explorer and exploring is what we do.

Surprisingly, the tribe let me into their fold.  They danced and sang while they gave me the most scrumptious food.

And now they let me into a hot tub to wipe away the dust and grime on my face.

I am a very lucky guy indeed.

Me, Myself and I

Due to social media there are high standards in beauty nowadays and plastic surgery is almost the norm.  I say "go" to whatever makes you happy but there's something awesome about having features from people you love stamped literally in your face.  Let us be happy with what we have and appreciate our differences.

February Hand Lettering Postcards

These aren't exactly new material.  It was always on the back of my mind to post but never got to!

The first one was created using watercolors while the second one was created using Tombow Dual Brush pens.

Rock Art (and Art Rocks!)

I never thought that I'll be spending much time Gardening, but nowadays, I am.  I now have a healthy assortment of succulents and cacti and just made rock art for the first time:

Tools used: flat rock/stones, acrylic paint, brush, Elmer's glue and water.  I used glue to make DIY Mod Podge.  It's the first time I ever heard of Mod Podge and to those as clueless as I am, Mod Podge acts as a paint sealer.  I don't know if my Mod Podge is effective, I'll just trust that it is (FYI, the recipe that I used is 1 part glue to 3 parts water).

Whenever I do something for the first time, I'm always torn if I need to buy stuff like those professionals do.  In this case, I debated if I should buy (1) the classic Mod Podge, (2) Uni Posca Paint Markers and (3) Gesso Primer -- just because they seem like the best materials to make your rock art pop, according to YouTube tutorials and blogs.

In the end I'm too practical.  Artists hoard stuff for a reason-- different arts need different materials!  And I had no idea if I'll enjoy creating rock art at all.  So I settled for some random acrylic paints I have at home and glue.  No primer.  I'll just buy those stuff in case I like to create more rock art in the future.

BTW, I'm still happy with the results.

My succulents and rocks look happy!

Disclaimer: I just copied the rock designs from others via Google.  So I will not be claiming that they are original designs.

February Hand Lettering Postcards

I can't believe it's February already!  And of course I've got to greet everyone:

Happy Chinese New Year!
On to some other postcards:
White and Gold in Black Paper

I think it's my first time to post a non-colorful art?  In this case, the filter is just black and white. :)

DIY: Upcycled Tin Cans

Just a commercial break from all those comics, illustrations and hand lettering stuff I've been doing.  I'm currently in a non-creative mood OR maybe I'm IN a creative mood; just not with regards to all those stuff I've been doing for years.

So I just jumped into the washi tape bandwagon.  I know, washi tapes have been here for years so I'm late into the game.  But one of my New Year's resolution is to upcycle more so I got inspired to "prettify" those tin cans I have laying around my room.

Disclaimer: blurry, at the same time, overly-filtered camera photos ahead.

This can is cute but (1) this is Christmas-inspired and it isn't Christmas anymore and (2) I got tired of seeing "Swissmiss" in the cans-- I mean, I  DO have three of this!
Just bought these washi tapes from Miniso at Php118 (around USD 2.25) per ten tapes.  As this is the first time I've bought washi tapes, I have no idea if the quality is good or if it is a good buy.  But hey, these are cute tapes so why not?

And I just looped those washi tapes around the cans.

TADA!  The finished products:

I think I could have made the execution neater but I have to admit, I love all the colors!

I have a lot of little things in my room so at least the mess looks a bit pretty.

I hope everybody is having a good 2019 so far <3

The Mean Girl in Fairy Tales

My panels have always been vertical as I've always thought they will show better in the blog.  In the past, whenever I try to have it in a horizontal manner, the comics always surpass the blog margins!  Thankfully, I think this one turned out well.

Pygmalion's Sculpture

Pygmalion is a gifted woman-hater sculptor in the Roman Myths.  He eventually fell in love with Galatea, a sculpture he made.  In the end Venus, the Goddess of Love, made Galatea human and she and Pygmalion got married.

Happy 2019 everyone!

The Necromancer (The Beginning)

For the longest time, I'm thinking of creating a new set of comics with new characters and stuff.  And I'm like, "ok, coming 2019 I will focus on this!"  But everything is half-baked on my mind because things are really busy right now and I couldn't focus on this as much as I would like.  So we'll see what happens.  In the meantime, this is a teaser of sorts of a new beginning.

In the City, In the Jungle, In the Stars

IN THE CITY

I hugged my son close to my chest as I pointed to the three starts forming a straight line above.

“Pretty stars,” I cooed.  “Just like you!” And I placed a kiss on my giggling son’s forehead.

“Dada will be home soon,” I whispered, almost to myself rather than the wriggling child on my arms.  “He is in a very important mission but he will soon be retiring and will be with us permanently.”

I stared at the twinkling stars above and prayed silently.  Please God, keep my husband safe and sound until he comes back home to us.

IN THE JUNGLE

I felt as though I’m in some sort of horror movie.  There was always a possibility that this would happen but imagining was still different from reality.

I staggered to my feet and stumbled through a patch of grass.  My side was burning and I’ve lost so much blood.  Add that to the fact that I haven’t eaten in two days and you’ve got one almost-dead man.

How could this happen to the team? I thought.  I should be packing to go back home, for heaven’s sake!  Everything was in order until the rebels found their way to our camp and suddenly attacked us.

I rolled on my back and stared up the starry skies.  My strength was leaving me and I was suddenly very, very tired.

In another part of the world, two important people were waiting for me to come back home.  I reached up the three shining starts within my vision, regrettably sorry that they will be waiting for nothing.

I love you both, I thought as my hand dropped wearily to my side and everything became dim.  Please be safe.

IN THE STARS

I was called “the witch of the three stars” and I heard two soft whispers.

Keep my husband safe and sound until he comes back home to us.

I love you both Please be safe.

I  peered through my window and saw a woman and a baby in the city and a bleeding man in the jungle.

This would not do, I thought as I walk to my spellbook.  I flipped through the pages and found a special spell called “The Spell of the Three People.”

“Perfect!” I cried as I throw some ingredients in my cauldron.

                Three people in need.

                    United by dreams, by blood.

                Three by three by three.

                    Love will set you free.

I smiled in satisfaction after I said the chant.  Somehow I know that in three days, these three people will be together again.

I clapped my hand in glee as I close the spellbook.  Job well done once again for the witch of the three stars.
